The fast development of LiDAR technology (Light Detection and Ranging) in recent years led to an increase of capturing programs of LiDAR data for diverse purposes. More and more countries capture LiDAR information throughout their territory, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Poland Sweden, Switzerland and the United States for instance. The trend towards increasing the number of countries with full LiDAR coverage on their territory, therefore the international market for LiDAR forest applications in large areas will increase substantially in the coming years.
There is a unique opportunity to incorporate technologies for the acquisition and massive processing of 3D space data and technologies that allow access to information quickly and efficiently using geographic data servers over the Internet.
INTEGRATED ONLINE MAPPING SYSTEMS AND FOREST INVENTORY ON LARGE SURFACES BASED ON LIDAR INFORMATION project is funded by CDTI through the European Economic Area (EEA) Agreement for the period 2009-2014 (EEA-Grants). Agresta aim is to develop a Large-area forest inventory methodology using LiDAR information and existing forest inventory databases and generate systems for visualization, geoprocessing and download of the information generated using data servers and online geoservices.
